DLP – Fast Model Resin Printing Material

Last updated: July 13, 2026

Fast Model Resin is a high-speed DLP printing material designed for rapid prototyping, concept validation, and high-throughput model production. Developed for the Formlabs Form 4 ecosystem, the material can print at speeds up to 100 mm per hour while maintaining the accuracy and surface quality expected from professional resin-based 3D printing.

At Forerunner 3D Printing, Fast Model Resin is best suited for design verification, early-stage product development, concept models, fit-check prototypes, and projects where speed is the highest priority. The material allows engineers and product designers to move from CAD design to physical part faster than many traditional prototyping materials, making it an excellent option for rapid design iterations and shortened development cycles.

Compared to many engineering-focused DLP resins, Fast Model Resin is optimized for throughput rather than extreme mechanical performance. It delivers excellent feature resolution, dimensional accuracy, and surface finish while enabling significantly faster print speeds. This makes it ideal for customers who need prototype parts quickly for evaluation, review meetings, ergonomic testing, and design refinement before committing to more specialized production-grade materials.

Key Material Facts:

  • Formlabs’ fastest printing resin, capable of print speeds up to 100 mm/hr on the Form 4 platform.
  • Designed specifically for rapid prototyping and accelerated design iteration cycles.
  • Produces highly accurate parts with excellent surface finish and fine feature resolution.
  • Ideal for concept models, fit-check prototypes, and early-stage product development.
  • Supports both 200-micron settings for maximum throughput and 100-micron settings for increased detail and surface quality.
  • Delivers a strong balance of dimensional accuracy, print speed, and prototype durability.
  • Enables rapid CAD-to-part turnaround, making it well suited for design reviews, customer presentations, and fast-paced development projects.

Common Applications:

  • Rapid prototypes and concept models for accelerated product development cycles.
  • Design verification parts used to evaluate form, fit, and overall product geometry before committing to production tooling.
  • Customer presentation models requiring smooth surface finish and professional appearance.
  • Trade show samples and marketing models where visual quality and quick turnaround are important.
  • Ergonomic and user-evaluation prototypes used during product development and design reviews.
  • Rapid design iteration projects where multiple prototype revisions are required in a short period of time.

Design Considerations:

  • Fast Model Resin is optimized for speed and rapid iteration rather than maximum mechanical performance. It is best suited for concept models, design verification parts, and early-stage prototypes where turnaround time is a primary consideration.
  • The material can be printed using either 200-micron layer heights for maximum throughput or 100-micron layer heights when additional surface detail and feature resolution are required.
  • Fast Model Resin is an excellent choice for projects that require multiple design iterations in a short period of time, allowing engineers to quickly evaluate form, fit, ergonomics, and overall product geometry.
  • While the material offers good dimensional accuracy and surface finish, it is not intended to replace engineering-focused DLP resins when high strength, impact resistance, or elevated temperature performance are required.
  • Parts printed in Fast Model Resin are ideal for customer presentations, trade show models, and design reviews where appearance, accuracy, and quick delivery are more important than long-term mechanical durability.
  • For applications requiring functional testing, long-term durability, or higher mechanical performance, alternative DLP materials such as Tough 1000, Tough 1500, or Tough 2000 resins may be a better fit.
